SUMMARY:Valley Winds Concert III at Eastview
DESCRIPTION:The Valley Winds concert band will perform The Planets Suite during a free performance at 7:30 p.m. on May 21\, in the Eastview High School Performing Arts Center. \nThe Planets Suite will be performed in its entirety with all expanded instrumentation originally scored by composer Gustav Holst\, including two harps\, organ\, alto flute\, two piccolos\, English horn and two sets of timpani. Special guests Eagan Women of Note will perform on the haunting last movement. \nHolst wrote The Planets for orchestra from 1914 to 1916. Bands have often played transcriptions of the movements Mars and Jupiter\, but rarely does a band program all seven movements. \nValley Winds will open the concert with Mother Earth\, a fanfare by David Maslanka. \nThe 70-piece Valley Winds is enjoying a busy second season\, including a recent performance at the St. Paul Landmark Center. They will also be playing concerts in Lakeville at Casperson Park at 3:30 p.m. on May 31\, and at the Como Park Pavilion in St. Paul at 7 p.m. on June 11.
