Fortune Magazine named Eagan the 11th best place for families to live in the United States. It’s the only city in Minnesota that made the annual list of 50 Best Places to Live for Families.
“Eagan values green space, and access to parks and trails,” says Eagan Mayor Mike Maguire, noting that Eagan’s park system includes 60 parks, a water park, community center and more. “Every resident lives within 1 mile of a park or pier on water, and we have over 162 miles of trails that connect to over 1,400 acres of parkland.”
Eagan is home to 68,000 residents, and the city is dedicated to environmental sustainability, as well as embracing its diverse population. According to a press release, nearly one in three people who call Eagan home are now Black, Indigenous, or people of color (BIPOC).
“Eagan also values inclusion and providing places, spaces, top-notch schools, and opportunities for everyone,” Maguire says. “This is what makes us one the most family-friendly cities in America.”
The Fortune Magazine list was compiled based on an analysis of nearly 1,900 cities across the country, and the best places to live scored high on assets like health care, education and resources for seniors, according to Fortune.
“Our vision, values, and ability to invest in our green spaces and recreation make Eagan such a great place for a key part of our city — families,” Maguire says. “When you couple all of that with our strong schools, people want to be in Eagan — and that is why we are growing.”
