The annual holiday festival introduces a new tree lighting ceremony.
Embrace the spirit of the season at Prior Lake’s DecemBRRR Dazzle event, scheduled from 5–8 p.m. on December 6 at Lakefront Park. The family-friendly event features a photo op with Santa, live ice carving demonstrations, crackling bonfires and more. We sat down with City of Prior Lake recreation supervisor Kelsey Coy for additional details.
What’s new this year?
KC: We are introducing the Tree Lighting Ceremony! Join us for a celebration featuring delightful songs from the Prior Lake Middle School Caroling Crew, a special message from city leaders and a countdown to illuminate the park. Our team is thrilled to enhance the event with this new addition. Following the lighting, we will have an exciting fireworks show, after which all other activities of the event will kick off. The event timeline can be found on the city website.
What can you tell us about the professional ice carving demonstrations?
KC: Adam Scholljegerdes and Joe Christenson from Sakatah Carvers, Signs & Creations will skillfully carve two 10 by 20 by 40 inch blocks of ice, each weighing 300 pounds, into stunning designs. Stop by during the event to observe the artists at work and be sure to return toward the end to admire the final creations.
What’s the most popular part of the event with the public?
KC: Our younger attendees particularly enjoy visiting with Santa, the fireworks display and the dance party with the DJ. Meanwhile, the giant bonfire appears to be a top choice among the adult crowd.
What’s your favorite part of the event?
KC: My favorite part is the fireworks display. In the chilly air, the lights and colors of the fireworks appear so vibrant and distinct. It’s a completely different experience compared to shows in warm weather.
I also am always amazed by the generosity of our community. We gather donations of new winter clothing for the Chamber of Commerce’s Tree of Warmth and new toys for the CAP Agency’s Hope for the Holidays programs. The response during the event is always remarkable.
